One Room Challenge Week 4

Slight Shift in mood board!! BTW...Are you an Empath??

I need to share a bit about me before moving on to the One Room Challenge progress. Mainly because it is directly correlated with this 8 week room transformation. I have changed my design mind about the space. There has been a bit of a roadblock from the very beginning. Going back and forth with style, colors, found pieces, art, paint color, floor coverings, etc....you get what I'm talking about?!?!?

If you're an empath creativity is a natural trait. We feel what others feel, even without any words spoken. Sometimes it is very overwhelming. It's like having 20 televisions on at one time.

Designing for others is fairly easy for me because I feel what they feel; therefore I can figure out their design type after spending some time talking and interacting of sorts with them. BUT....for our own personal space it is not so easy because I have so many design styles and I love to mix them!!!!

All that to say is I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND on some things and I love it!!!

Here is a recap of this weeks process.

I did a new thing, something I have never done before. If you want hardwood floors and don't want to go the expense, try what I did. I used 3/4" sanded plywood and cut into 5 3/4" planks. I will do the actual DIY post after the challenge. It was a lot of work. Thank goodness for my construction crew, they made a big jig to cut the pieces evenly, safely and quickly.

Here is what a big jig looks like. A Jig is a device ( can be made or bought for various projects) that is used to control the blade of a saw or another tool that will cut or otherwise alter wood. It also functions to steady the wood and prevent inaccurate cuts. This is a big one because we were cutting a 4' x 8' sheet and cutting into 5 3/4" pieces.

This stack has to be nailed down one by one....144 of them to cover 500 sq/ft. I originally thought I would use cut nails. If you want to see what cut nails are see my Instagram post here

The original plan was to add a light stain and go with a wood finished look. I didn't like the grain in the pine so I decided to paint it...I have a little something something that I am going to do to the floor after I paint it...that will be next weeks reveal. So....those hard as hell to hammer cut nails that have so much character in a wood finish (originally we were going to have to hammer over a 1000), now I can use regular nails...that should go much faster and easier on my arm.

But before the floors can go down all the carpet and padding had to come up and go to the trash....Man Oh Man was that a beast. It is so heavy. It was cut into pieces that were manageable. Then a million staples had to come up..ONE.AT.A.TIME.

Update on the couches....The ugly 90's slipcovered couches that I dyed with an Indigo Dye ( see my blog post on the DIY here )
I thought I could make it work but they are not dark enough so I have to do the whole process over again. Then I have more plans to change the look. Right now the look I would say is...frumpy...lol!!

I know it is not too exciting at this point but there is so much going on that I can't show you right now. So come back next week!!!

Thanks again for all your support!!!
