This week has been productive and exhausting. No need to got to the gym because I feel like I have done a million squats and my abs are even sore...LOL!!
We got the plywood flooring installed. We used a nail gun with finish nails that made the process go so much faster.
I try to make sure I have all the tools I need before starting. Measuring out where to start is so important. We used a chalk line to get a straight line and to make sure it was square. I did that by measuring out from the wall 1/4' less than the width of the board. So for my project the boards were 5 3/4". I marked out from the wall 5 1/2" all along the wall then used a chalk line and line it up along the marks and snapped a line!!
Of course we cleaned the floor free of debris and staples, also made sure all the screws in the sub-flooring were not raised so that we have a smooth install.Pattern...which way to lay it down...haha that was a little time consuming because I wanted a brick pattern of sorts. So I cut different lengths of boards 4', 6', 7', and 8" pieces. I got the pattern for four rows by dry fitting in place. I wrote it down then installed in a repeating pattern every 4 rows to make it look consistent. I used tape to mark the boards to make it easier to repeat the pattern. It can get crazy with all the boards and pattern.
During the install we used quarters ( yes real quarters) for spacers. It left a gap in the floors intentionally because I was going for the look of an old cottage. Although that is NOT the overall style for this space.
The install went quite smoothly because of a good plan.
I was inspired by an IG post on Melanie Turners page...see here ...of course hers looks amazing!!! So I took a shot at this classy floor painting. Mine looks a little more cottage-y because of the plank floors ( totally intentional!!) .
I had my daughters boyfriend ( he is a graphic designer) to make me a Octagon at 30" and a smaller one to go inside, also did a large 30" square with two smaller for inside, and a small round to go inside the center of the Octagon.
I used the printed shapes and made templates out of wood to make it easier to trace on the floor.
I then put tape to outline the area that I was painting black. Before painting black I went around the taped edge with the same white paint that I used to paint all the floor.
